M/E Wagner Dual Flow Adjustable PCV Valve
- Quote
Postby Justa1time »
Good evening,
I am looking at a few different ways to get crankcase ventilation and idle air below the throttle plates on my Quick fuel sq650 on my car with sbc.
With a pcv valve, oil separator or catch can sealed or vented then to carb baseplate.
Or
I discovered this M/C Wagner adjustable PCV Valve and wanted to know who has used it or has it & what they thought.
I would run this to Moroso 85474 oil seperator before hooking to the baseplate of my carb.
https://www.amazon.com/Moroso-85474-Uni ... 7921b601d2
At first I had planned on running a 3/4" hose from my air filter baseplate to one valve cover for air inlet. The outlet from the other valve cover ( Both valve covers have interior baffles) to sealed catch can w/ baffles and
from there down to my exhaust and inserting it at 45° past the collector to evacuate the gasses there.
I have a baseplate on my Quick fuel sq650 that has a vacuum port on the back that I was going to run a ball valve on to dial in the fresh air entering here (Similar to a lean air valve) to get fair idle AFR by letting air enter the baseplate below the throttle plates- right now it's rich due to this being blocked off & I refuse to drill holes in throttle plates or expose too much T slot.
Any input appreciated!
Thank you,
Bryan

100% yes on the MEW PCV valve. Do it. Same with the separator. You won’t regret it.

I've been using one of the Wagner Dual Flow PCV's on my street driven 513 BBC for several years now with a Trick Flow oil seperator,
;https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tfs-k51400850
The directions need to be closely followed to fine tune Wagner unit to match your engine.
My vacuum readings are 7-8 in HG at idle when warmed up so I used the dual flow mode with the low vacuum spring.
My valve covers are baffled and the drivers side has a breather on it allowing fresh air to enter the crankcase.
Seems to work just fine and the catch can does not seem to collect much oil, maybe a tablespoon or so in a season.
I was kind of concerned that it wasnt collecting much oil so I emailed Matt at ME Wagner and here is his reply;
"Guy,
Thanks for the update and I’m glad the valve is working well for you. If you have set up the valve per the shop manual, this will guarantee you have adequate airflow. If your separator has a minimal amount of oil in it, that’s is a sign that your baffle is working well. Most customers that contact us on this issue have excessive oil in the separator and need a baffle redesign.
If the valve tunes as it should per the shop manual you should be good to go. If you have any concerns that oil is making it past the separator or that the PCV isn’t flowing enough for some reason then it might be worth looking into more.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Regards,
Matt Wagner"

Isn't that port for the PCV? Why is it not hooked up?

Can you guys explain what was better in your experience using the Wagner valve , was it increased idle vacuum or what? Do you have before and after results compared to a standard pcv valve.

Crutching a blowby issue here, 383 TPI- no stock pcv will do. It was worth organizing a group buy.

Any other input on this valve and how folks have managed to use this valve and have a fairly consistent mixture of PCV air in intake manifold?

The Wagner valve is dual mode.
On it you can adjust the amount of PCV flow at idle. AND yiu can adjust the amount of flow at engine CRUISE and at what vacuum level change the valve switches from its idle mode to its cruise mode flow operation.
It also can function as a more simple "fixed orrifice" type PCV valve.
These are critical adjustments as to get the AMOUNT of fliw correct at idle so that.
1. you do not draw oil up into the PCV under high vacuum condition.
2. The idle and cruise Flow is not excessive which will excessivly lean out the idle/ off idle transition driving .
If your carb has a ⅜" pcv vacuum port on the base IT WAS
DESIGNED AND CALIBRATED to work WITH A FUNCTIONING pCV valve. It all works together.
But the PCV valve calibeation has to be correct.
Changing to a non stock camshaft has a big effect on idle and cruise vacuum.
There are tons and tons of OEM speced PCV valves but no way to select based on vaccum nore pindle switch point. The Wagner PCV fixes all this.

Again: Can you guys explain what was better in your experience using the Wagner valve , was it increased idle vacuum or what? Do you have before and after results compared to a standard pcv valve.
And how do you know when you need one?

You can make an off the shelf PCV adjustable for idle air flow volume. Common sbc pcv valves come with a plastic 90 degree elbow on top, i threaded the top of that plastic elbow to add a small screw which serves to limit pintle travel in the hi-vacuum position.
Here's a pic of that style valve cut open. You don't have to cut one open to add the screw, this one is cut open just to show what adding the screw does...
Here's a pic of where the screw goes...
Here's a pic of the inside...
Affordable enough to experiment with, you may not need to spend Wagner money to get what you need.

I have never used the Wagner pcv valce . But I understand what and why on it.
Someday I will need one.
