I kept questioning myself but... Genuinely all I saw was a horrible woman tormenting someone who had made the mistake of marrying her. And I really wanted to root for chastain's character from the beginning. There is only one scene that made me feel disgust for Isaac's character when he made her problems all about him. They just didn't act like human beings and certainly not loving human beings in a conflicted and difficult relationship. At least I hope that's not how human beings act.. so if you want to be mildly entertained by excellent depictions of horrible, empty people, you'll probably like this. I had hoped that it would truly show the nuances and torment, and at least make her character more likable or relatable. Actually..now that I think about it she does remind me of an actual woman I know, with a high-powered career and absolutely egotistical, manipulative personal life spent destroying the men who wander into her path... Hm. Maybe people really are like this? Terrifying.
